Bought this for a 7-year-old. The flaps are a great way to draw the child in, provide exploration, and encourage reading. It offers enough information to be informative without overwhelming. The illustrations are colorful and intricate, so there is always something new to discover.

I should have paid closer attention to the details before purchasing this book. My grandson is going to be 7 years old in May and it's a little juvenile for him. The diagram and explanation of the mechanics are well done but it's more of a pop up book so the pages are thick. For that reason there's not as many pages I'd hoped for. If the child you're buying for is younger I think they'd enjoy it more.

The youngster has an interest in science and wants to learn how things work. He and the book have been constant companions. The parents have learned a thing or two as well.
